Supliciu 3ds max, mental ray, Mudbox, Photoshop February 2009
Hi everyone
Supliciu, the name of this piece, is a Romanian word and it stands for deep emotional suffering or great physical anguish.
The golden and the silver paint/blood represent different levels suffering. Silver is superficial pain whereas gold is deep emotional pain(i also tried to make an analogy to the real value of those 2 precious metals, meaning the pain inside/emotional is superior to the one outside/on the surface because it has the power to change and to give birth to another person). The main material, bronze-like, represents the old personality of the character which he tears away to make way for a new brilliant being.
My goal here was NOT to make an illustration but to convey the feelings noted above and this is the reason why I refrained from adding anything to this project that would take away from that idea and that would diminish my desire to do the only thing i truly love in cg, modeling.
